Twitter is a great way to meet new people and to promote your business. However there are a few do’s and don’t that you should consider when it comes to your Twitter profile and your website.
- Do link to your website by adding it to your profile so that new followers can find out more. Followers will want to know more so consider linking to a dedicated page on your site…
- …so link to specially prepared pages for Twitter followers. Thank them for visiting and clicking through from your profile.
- Do not link out to parked pages or sites that have little or no information. I have seen a few profiles for expat businesses in France that link out to holding pages. Some are parked domains and others simply say site under construction. It will tell followers absolutely nothing about your business and it makes you look unprofessional. They are less likely to to visit your site in the future.
- Use a site like TwitterFeed that can take your RSS feed from your blog and use it to update your Twitter account. Each time you write a new blog entry, it will automaticlly be Tweeted for all your followers to read.
- Place your Twitter address on your website to make it easier for you to be followed.

Thanks for this advice, I have just added a Twitter account for my Monet, Giverny & Normandy blog, and added a twitter feed as you suggest, as well as a plugin to the blog to show people who find the blog via other sources that there is a Twitter presence.
Thanks for the nudge!
Thomas
