The Internet is littered with abbreviations. There are your TLA’s (Three Letter Abbreviations) like SEO, SEM and ROI. Then there are the longer ones such as SERPS and HTML. Of course there are shorter ones such as DB, SM and PR.
How many of those terms do you know?
Those who blog for their business can get caught up in what they do. They speak to others in the same industry and use common words and phrases that have meaning only to the who have been in that industry for a while. They write on their blogs sharing what they know but use abbreviations, TLA’s and what they believe is common knowledge. Their ideas are great but for some it’s like a foreign language.
Nothing will put off a potential client spending money quicker than reading words they don’t understand. Your sales and marketing efforts will be confusing and meaningless to the majority.
Don’t forget the beginners, the ones who need to find solutions but work in another industry and those who haven’t kept up with modern developments.
It takes effort to write clear and readable text. Don’t get complicated, don’t talk down, find a middle ground where everyone can understand you. You need to invest time in perfecting this but it will be rewarded.
